First edition, first printing (true first).192pp. In red cloth covered boards with black lettering and motif on spine (boards are strong and square, just slightly rounded at spine ends, one tiny mark on front, some flecking on text block edges). Signs of a label having been removed on the front free endpapers, and a white dot on top corner. Pencilled date on rear endpaper, else internally neat, clean and bright. In its original dust jacket (a little chapped on edges, some mild creasing on spine, a couple of scuffs on front, a little grubby). A detective story set against the background of Grand Opera, from the Shropshire author of the Brother Cadfael stories. Ellis Peters is one of the pen names of Edith Pargeter (1913-1995).
