First edition, first printing. 96pp plus many black and white and some colour plate illustrations throughout. In blue cloth-covered boards with gilt lettering (faded around spine and edges; a little rubbed and rounded at corners and spine ends). The front free endpaper has been roughly corner-clipped, the rear free endpaper is bruised and a little creased on edge, endpapers lightly spotted, else internally neat, clean, bright and tight. The story of Queen Elizabeth up to 1951; first published in serial form in 1951 in Women's Own magazine under the title Princess Elizabeth - the Woman. Crawford was governess to the young Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret, who called her Crawfie. After writing her books, which the Royal Family saw as a betrayal of trust, she was ostracised from the Royal family and left her grace and favour residence, Nottingham Cottage.
