Lender's stamps, security device and markings on endpapers and copyright page. Internally a neat, clean, bright and tight volume. Translated and Introduced by Bernarr Rainbow. Jean-Jacques Rousseau travelled in poverty to Paris determined to win the support of the Academy of Sciences for a new form of musical notation. The paper outlining his proposals which he read before a small committee appointed by the Academy on August 22, 1742 forms the text of this volume.
