82, xviiipp, with colour plate frontispiece and further numerous black and white illustrations.  Laminated light card covers.  Square 8vo.  Covers are a little unevenly toned, gently rubbed at edges, flat creasing around top of spine.  Previous owner's name on first leaf and, internally, a little page toning.  Binding is brittle but holding. A detailed exploration of the works of 18th century portrait painter, Sir Godfrey Kneller - and artist who has suffered from over-exposure and whose reputation has been debased by the vast number of anonymous works which have been attributed to him.  Based on the collection of Kneller's works exhibited at the National Portrait Gallery in London.
