Undated but circa 1885 (previous owner's name dated 1889).  Third edition, enlarged.  24pp stapled booklet in light card, printed wrappers.  16mo.  Covers are rubbed all over, a little discoloured around edges, with a few mild marks and couple of small nicks on edges.  Hints of page toning internally, previous owner's name neatly inked at the top of the title page, some pages a little dog-eared. An assessment of the benefits of old and new violins, with much discussion of the history of violin making and the craftsmanship and techniques involved.
