62, [ii] pages, with 27 full colour botanical plate illustrations (of different varieties of mushrooms). Quarter bound in brown cloth over paper-covered boards. 8vo. Boards are heavily worn, rubbed all round edges, bumped on corners and marked and spotted. Inscription, dated 1948, on front free endpaper. Pages show signs of handling, occasional corner imperfections and signs of long-term compression; plates remain bright and fresh.
A discourse on the nature of fungi and their classifications, with guides to identification of both edible and poisonous varieties (including field mushrooms, parasol mushrooms, fairy ring champignon, death cap etc); with notes on their preparation for eating.
