xii, 244pp, with monochrome illustration in text.  Brown cloth-covered boards with black lettering and decorations.  16mo.  Cloth is a little tired. gently rounded at corners and spine ends.  Faint spotting on text block edges.  Small bookseller's stamp on the front paste down, else internally neat, clean, bright and tight. Written in the late 19th century. a record of the author’s anthropological and ethnological observations during his travels, particularly focusing on the cultures and customs of the Torres Straits Islanders and other indigenous communities in the region.
