Undated but circa 1930.Β  96pp, with eight monochrome plate illustrations and numerous page decorations throughout.Β  Blue cloth-covered boards with gilt lettering front and spine, blind embossed vignette on upper panel. Top edge gilt. 12mo.Β  Cloth is a little tired, gently rubbed andΒ  rounded on corners and spine ends.Β  Previous owner's name neatly inked on the front free endpaper.Β  Endpapers have a little toning and spotting else internally neat, clean, bright and tight. A quietly lovely edition of Goethe's classic poem - one of the few that he himself had pleasure in reading in his later years - rendered into English by Vivian Brandon and illustrations after pictures by the Austrian painter and draftsman Arthur, Frieherr [Baron] von Ramberg.
