Goldsmith (1730-74), of Irish heritage, arrived in London penniless. The manuscript of the Vicar of Wakefield was sold by Johnson for ๏ฟฝ60 in order to prevent his being arrested for debt. First published in the World Classics Series in 1901, this is a reset edition from 1959.
