Agnes Jekyll, the sister-in-law of garden writer Gertrude, was a well-known society hostess.  in the early 1920s she wrote a series of essays for The Times newspaper anonymously, with recipes set against her commentary and guidance on home-making.  All those essays are collected here in this volume.
